Broadcast Center - Background
Broadcast Center is part of the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group Limited Partnership, which is Canada’s largest private western-based broadcasting company. Based in Kamloops, the company operates 32 radio and TV stations throughout BC and Alberta, including several in Kamloops (below). The President of the company is long-time local broadcaster Rick Arnish, who I recall used to call the numbers for CFJC TV's TV Bingo in the early seventies. Arnish has been with the company since 1969, and now leads an organization that has grown both organically and through acquisitions to employ almost 500 people (as of March 2007).
The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group purchased the assets of Inland Broadcasters and Twin Cities Radio - which included CIFM and CFJC-TV - in 1987 from D.S. Clark, J.W.R. Pollard, and Diane Edgell. The move was opposed by Vancouver Co-operative Radio, which intervened at CRTC hearings on the basis the Kamloops and other communities served by stations would be better served if ownership of the FM stations remained local. Nevertheless the move was approved, and the stations are managed locally, if not owned locally.
CRTC records indicate that the group is jointly owned by Jim Pattison Broadcast Group Ltd. and Jim Pattison Industries Ltd., which in return is owned 100% by Jim Pattison Ltd., which is itself owned 100% by James A. Pattison. The breakdown of ownership positions in Jim Pattison Broadcast Group Limited Partnership are as follows:
- Jim Pattison Broadcast Group Ltd. owns a 0.01% position directly
- Jim Pattison Industries Ltd. owns a 99.99% position directly, and the remainder indirectly via its ownership of Jim Pattison Broadcast Group Ltd. (as above)
