It's been a couple of weeks since I last posted, so first I'd like to thank my regular readers for their patience. And, as remarked upon previously in this space, the absence of new posts seems to have resulted in even more visits. So, in an attempt to prevent more traffic, here's some new material for you.
I've been away from the blog for a couple of reasons, the primary of which is illness. I came down with a nasty case of Influenza-B, followed by double pneumonia. In fact, the whole Baker household has been hit with this bug, which has put me well behind on a number of fronts.
Now, unfortunately, my first post back may not be as substantive as some readers might like. In fact, there is no meat on this bone, just a fine plate of smoked trout salad.
Business has took me on the road this week, first to Montreal and now Vancouver. Montreal is recovering
from a hellacious winter, the remnants of which are piled up in a mountain of snow over a mile long and 40 feet high along the highway from Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.
Downtown, spring hasn't quite arrived, but didn't prevented a healthy crowd Monday afternoon from gathering on the sidewalk at the corner of Rue Saint-Denis and Rue Cherrier to dine on the patio of Le Café Cherrier.
My group elected to sit inside where it was warmer (and smoke-free), where our waiter
Bernard provided excellent service and recommendations for both dinner and drinks.
I followed his guidance and savoured a nice glass of dry white and a remarkable plate of cold smoked trout salad that definitely ranks as one of my best travel dining experiences.
That's it, there ain't no meat on this bone.
